• iTunes: Silent update brings back Genius Bar

Since the iTunes update to version 10 missing Genius recommendations are back. The ping to sidebar been converted into the right area of the iTunes window has been renamed as part of a silent update in the iTunes sidebar and added to the display of Genius recommendations for similar titles. Apple responds so obviously to the massive criticism from users after the removal of Genius sidebar, this was part of the introduction of Apple’s “social network for music fans,” Ping canceled.

In the iTunes sidebar, then both will appear: The Genius recommendations, and if you registered there is also current status and activities of Apple’s Ping network. On the small button with a triangle and bottom right of the iTunes window, can the iTunes sidebar and as usual completely invisible.

The automatic update of this area without installation of an update is possible because the content is completely dynamic anyway – similar to the window of a web browser. iTunes therefore requires an internet connection to view the latest information.

  • A black background 10 for iTunes

Many users bemoan the sadness on the latest version of iTunes. All grayscale, it lacks a bit of contrast and could be tempted to boost things up a bit. Apple does not allow customization of its media player, but a little trick will allow users of a Mac to taste the joys of a black background.

To do this, nothing complicated. Just open a Terminal window and enter the following command:

    defaults write com.apple.iTunes high-contrast-mode-bool-enable TRUE

The entire issue devoted to the display of your playlists will switch on when the next mode: black and white characters written. Not necessarily happy, but already more contrasted than the default version! To go back, you simply enter the same command, but replace TRUE with FALSE. Via Macworld. Note that a priori, the trick also works for Version 9 software.
